It is typically prepared with chana dal, urad dal, red chilies, garlic, asafoetida, black pepper, sesame seeds, and curry leaves and is mostly eat with idli’s as dipping condiment.

Equipment

  • Non stick Pan
  • Mixer / Grinder

Ingredients
  

  • 3 tsp Oil
  • 8-10 Dried Red Chilli
  • 5-10 Curry leaves
  • ¼ Cups Split Bengal Gram ( Chana Dal )
  • ½ Cups Split Black Gram ( Urad Dal )
  • 15-20 Black Pepper
  • ¼ Cups Sesame ( Til )
  • 7-8 Cloves Garlic
  • ½ tsp Asafoetida ( Hing )
  • Salt as per taste

Instructions
 

  • Heat up the pan, add 2 tsp oil.
  • add dried red chilli & Curry Leaves into it. Fry it for 1 min on medium flame.
  • Now, transfer the mixture to grinder.
  • Again add 1 tsp oil to pan.
  • Add Split Bengal Gram (Chana Dal), Split Black Gram (Urad Dal), Black Pepper (Kali Mirch), Sesame (Til), Garlic (Lahasun), Asafoetida (Hing) & salt as per taste.
  • Fry the mixture for 2-3 min. & transfer it to same mixture / Grinder where red chillies are added.
  • Grind it to make fine powder.
  • Now your Gun Powder (Idli Podi) is ready to serve..
